Local equities see a small uptick

The key equity barometers traded with modest gains in early trade. Nifty opened at 22691 and hit a high of 22737 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Media, Nifty IT and Nifty PSU Bank shares rose, while Nifty Auto and Nifty Chemicals shares declined.

At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, up 191.31 points to 73,437.34. The Nifty 50 index added 20 points or 0.09% to 22,718.85.

The broader market failed to keep pace with frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest gains of 0.10% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.05%.

The market breadth was favorable. On the BSE, 2132 shares advanced and 1584 shares retreated. A total of 215 shares were unchanged.

Nifty Media index inched up 0.98% to 1653. The index has advanced 6.38% in last one month and edged higher by 6.43% over last one year. PVR Inox, inching higher 2.75%, led the gainers followed by Zee Entertainmen, gaining 1.48% and Tips Music, adding 1.37%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 6 are reporting gains today.

Nifty IT index added 0.91% to 31840. The index has jumped 12.34% in last one month and fell 12.01% over last one year. Oracle Fin.Serv., edging up 3.31%, led the gainers followed by Wipro, up 2.20% and TCS, adding 1.19%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 9 are reporting gains today.

Nifty Auto index edged lower by 0.46%. The index has edged lower 3.08% in last one month and lost 5.31% over last one year. Bosch, down 1.71%, led the losers followed by Samvardh. Mothe., edging lower 1.37% and Tube Investments, easing 1.23%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 13 are reporting loss today.

In NIFTY500, Birlasoft Ltd is the top gainer today, soaring 9.89% to Rs 336.55. The counter has fallen 18.84% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 128171.50 in last five sessions compared to 192457.76 over last one month.

Asian markets traded slightly lower on Thursday. China’s Shanghai composite is trading lower by 0.93%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is marginally lower by 0.12%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is slightly higher by 0.40%.
