Union Minister of Commerce highlights strategic and comprehensive nature of India-Japan relations

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, met with senior leaders of major Japanese financial and investment institutions in Tokyo to discuss increasing long-term capital flows, enhancing investment partnerships, and encouraging Japanese involvement in India's growth. Goyal pointed out the resilience of the Indian economy, which achieved 7.7 percent growth last year and aims to reach a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047. He emphasized key factors for sustained growth, such as a strong banking sector, low non-performing assets, and a rising middle class with higher disposable incomes.

Goyal mentioned several attractive investment sectors for Japanese investors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure. He noted India’s expanding renewable energy capacity and its Semiconductor Mission as opportunities for growth in manufacturing and technology. Goyal affirmed India’s deep and strategic relationship with Japan and its commitment to protecting intellectual property, offering high-quality talent, and creating a favorable business environment.
