Private Bank share declined after advancing in the past trading session.
At 14:28 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex slipped 300.15 points or 0.37% to 81,801.95. The Nifty 50 index lost 82.90 points or 0.33% to 25,086.60.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.63% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index declined 0.24%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1,634 shares rose and 2,466 shares fell. A total of 174 shares were unchanged.
Buzzing Index:
The Nifty Private Bank index fell 0.84% to 26,830.95. The index rose 0.53% in the past trading session.
IndusInd Bank (down 1.59%), Bandhan Bank (down 1.23%), HDFC Bank (down 1.02%), Axis Bank (down 0.94%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 0.74%), ICICI Bank (down 0.72%), Yes Bank (down 0.37%), IDFC First Bank (down 0.31%) and Federal Bank (down 0.22%) declined.
Numbers to Track:
The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper added 0.09% to 6.473 from the previous close of 6.467.
In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 88.7700 compared with its close of 88.7300 during the previous trading session.
MCX Gold futures for 3 October 2025 settlement declined 0.22% to Rs 1,13,590.
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was up 0.32% to 97.20.
The United States 10-year bond yield fell 0.36% to 4.105.
In the commodities market, Brent crude for November 2025 settlement lost 10 cents or 0.15% to $67.53 a barrel.
